A Poem About Fear

Fear of Flying

When things are going too well
  And your heart is in your throat;
You hug yourself for that terrible fear
  That someone will sink your boat.

There’s something you ought to remember
  (And not many people know);
That God really loves the winner in us;
  She wants YOU to steal the show.

She didn’t make people to suffer,
  Although sometimes we do;
She made us to love and to sing and to dance
  And to come visit Her when we’re through.

We all have her invitation
  To a big hoedown in the sky.
Do you think She’d invite a bunch of deadbeats
  Who’ve never learned how to fly?

About almondhead

I am a mental health counselor in private practice. One of the focuses of my practice is helping people with fear, anxiety and their ugly stepsister, depression. I became a counselor after a long career in the technology world, so naturally, I think of the brain as an engineering problem. It can help to understand something about how the brain works. I decided to start this blog as a way to help other people learn about fear, anxiety and relationship. (All our problems are really about relationships.)
